How to Make Cold Process Oatmeal Soap

Learn all about the benefits of using oatmeal soap.
Ingredients
- 16 oz coconut oil
- 14 oz olive oil
- 2 oz shea butter
- 4.7 oz lye (sodium hydroxide)
- 11 oz cold distilled water
- 2-3 oz finely ground oatmeal
- Optional: 1 oz essential oil of choice
Steps
- Put on safety gear. In a well-ventilated area, slowly add lye to cold water (never the reverse). Stir gently until dissolved. Let cool to 100-110°F.
- Meanwhile, melt coconut oil and shea butter, then combine with olive oil. Let cool to 100-110°F.
- When both mixtures reach the target temperature range, slowly pour the lye solution into the oils.
- Use an immersion blender to mix until reaching "trace" (when the mixture leaves a visible trail on the surface, like pudding consistency).
- Add rolled oats or ground oatmeal and essential oils if using.
- Pour into lined mold and insulate with towels.
- After 24-48 hours, remove the soap and cut it into bars.
- Cure the soap bars for 4-6 weeks in a well-ventilated area, turning occasionally.
